That shows some restraint. You could’ve slipped o nto the “oh, look, first-gen Threadrippers under $200" slippery slope only to have to shell out for a TR4 motherboard and enough sticks to fill all memory channels.

I did think about that but a TR is overkill for my use case and I didn’t want to pay TR motherboard, cooler, and power costs. A 3900x and 2070 Super is plenty for me.

Did you get it at retail price? Only ones I saw were at $800 and higher. I wound up with a 3800X.

Just over $520  for the version with the included cooler and Newegg tossed in Borderlands 3 and The Outer Worlds. I could have gotten the coolerless version for $500 but I wanted to play Borderlands 3 and The Outer Worlds anyway.

It’s a 40 year old 633 that my dad and I are turning into a drift car. It was a street car before it was parked 10+ years ago.

I’ll be getting an AIO water cooler eventually, the included cooler will just allow me to get it running sooner. The $120 in games was the better selling point.

I had a Corsair AIO and I don’t recommend it, it failed silently but reported like it was still pumping water, and shot up cpu temps to 110C and would thermal shutdown when I wasn’t around.

Nobody told me that quiet operation also meant quiet failure.

My coworker has a Ryzen 3 system with an NZXT watercooler he likes. I’ll probably end up with one of those.

Yeah I have a laptop with a 550 in it that barely cuts it when I travel but at home a Ryzen 5 with a GTX 1060 6gb does pretty nicely for most things.

2070 Super, 32 GB of RAM in a 2x 16GB config to allow for easy upgrade to 64GB, 512GB nvme SSD, 6TB spinning disk. Should be a beast.

On a happier note, MY wallet is still alive and well.

But my desktop PC is old... an old Athlon X4 630 with 4GB RAM running Ubuntu.

Haven’t picked a motherboard yet. I wanted mATX but there’s only one mATX X570 motherboard available. I’m likely going to end up with an ATX X570.

DR 2.0 in VR is likely more than a PS4 can handle. I know I get half the FPS in 2.0 that I did in DR1.

It’s pretty well optimized on PS4; I haven’t noticed any significant performance differences from the original. Oh well, as long as Gran Turismo has full VR implementation on PS5 I’ll never leave the house.
